The 13th Congress of South-East European Studies “Communication and Exchange: South-Eastern Europe within Global Social, Political and Cultural Processes”

Members of the FORMIDOX research team, Dr. Marija Vasiljević and Dr. Ognjen Krešić, took part in the 13th Congress of the Association Internationale d’Études du Sud-Est Européen (AIESEE), held in Skopje from September 15 to 18, 2025. In collaboration with colleagues from the ERC-funded project Orthodoxies and Politics: The Religious Reforms of the Mid-17th Century in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, Dr. Ovidiu Olar and Dr. Iulia Nițescu, they co-organized a thematic panel titled Identifications and Shaping of the “True Faith” in the Ottoman Balkans and Eastern Europe (15th–18th Centuries). The panel aimed to present the research findings of both projects and highlight their complementarity. Dr. Vasiljević presented the paper Reconsidering Identity Formations: 17th-Century Hagiographies in the Patriarchate of Peć, while Dr. Krešić delivered a talk titled Between Cenobitic and Idiorrhythmic Monasticism: Monks’ Self-Identification and Their Relations with Coreligionists in the Early Modern Ottoman Balkans.
